1991 MU radiator upgrade for 4JG2

Postby IsuzuMu77 » Fri Jan 17, 2014 9:44 pm

I have a 4JG2T in my 91 MU, was stock 4Jb1T. Wanting to upgrade the radiator before i have troubles.(its getting old) Getting too warm up hills towing for my liking. And the 4JG2 had a bigger radiator than the 4JB1 as a H/D option. $550 is what i have quoted for a 3 core fit in new tank and mount like it was standard.
but don't really trust the guy. (who would expose that his licence expired, and argue the point to get it back on the phone while i was waiting for a quote)

if only i could take his books and copy the bits i need. looking for any PDF's that show part numbers and dimensions.

new reco engine, new bright green coolant, no other troubles mechanically.

Any help appreciated.

I swapped my plastic tank 4jg2 radiator for a rodeo 4jb1t copper tank radiator in the Mrs wizard.
Its auto & i has a massive transcooler in front of it, & A/C is on 75% of the time.
It doesnt overheat with almost 350 thousand on the clock.....
Also engine is not intercooled & no bonnet scoop which would lower temps in extreme conditions more.

If i was going for a custom radiator id wait til the 2inch bodylift was done, then measure up for something bigger
cheers

ok.. the 4jb1 has a 30mm 2 core (rodeo) and i want to up it to the 50mm three core (jackaroo).and definitely staying copper..... then maybe work a electric fan only! but want the temp down for now!
If anybody has a big radiator in the MU please let me know what u got and how different it is to fit..

cheers

i put a 3 core hilux radiator in my 2.8 bighorn, it has a bodylift though, just had to redrill the side bands for mounting and modify bottom hose, looks factory though and running viscous fan still never been hotter than 85 degrees
