Possiable comp truck?

Postby Rusty92MU » Mon May 31, 2010 7:46 pm

gday im considering building my own little comp truck isuzu style, but i thought be fore i spend all my hard earned cash id ask if any one can give me IDEAS or pick holes in my plan, so here it goes.....
My thinking is getting an MU that has been stuffed and use the whole chassis frame, axels, suspension, ect. then find a good condition rodeo single cab and mounting it on that chassis and build some sort of custom tray for it give it a 3inch body lift 3 inch suspension lift front and rear air lokka's hopefully a set of 35'' or 37'', and as for the engine i did think about just using the 2.8 or 3.1 TD but perhaps id need some more power so was thinking a V6 or even a V8  and im still not sure on transmission auto or manual?
So if u have any input i would love to hear what u guys have to say about it
Cheers
Brad

With all the other work I would consider a hilux live axle up front. In NZ there is a move away from really large tyres. Unless you are doing extreme stuff theres no need for bigger than 35s on a short truck. How easy can you get a mu chassis over there?
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Definatly have to put in a solid axle for comps/big lift/big tyres.

Usually the choice of hilux, landcruiser & safari/patrol axles.

Engine choices for MUs usually Holden V6 (supercharged?) and 1UZ-FE V8.

I like the idea of doing this also, if I had the money, the space and the knowledge I would race you to the finish line. Instead I shall watch and cheer appreciatively from the grandstands ... sigh

Often thought that a rodeo cab on mu chassis (even stock) would make a great little truck much like the old short wheel base landys. Do know of a bloke who made a farm/hunting truck by putting a mitzi l300 cab on swb pajaro frame coils all round and all and swore by it
