What is better for towing 2wd or 4wd??

Was just flicking through a 4x4 mag and saw the add for the new dmax. It states 3 tonne towing capacity in 4wd and 2.5 tonne towing capacity in 2wd... Why is this so??? And does that mean I will have a greater towing capacity in my MU if I tow in 4wd???

Never ever run a Mu on a hard dry surface in 4wd. The part time system on the Mu will dictate that all wheels travel at the same speed but we all know the front wheels go furthur in a bend. This causes extreme tyre wear and can break things.
The Dmax might have some type of full time 4wd

2WD models are lighter, therefore can't tow as much. It's not if they are in 4WD or not...

I think they are talking about 2 different vehicles. A 2wd Dmax is lighter than a 4wd Dmax
