Sal,that should be an easy swap, pretty much just a bolt in deal, the motor mounts should be the same, you'll have to use the diesel trans as your gas one won't bolt up,the hardest part sould be finding a good diesel motor and trans, you would want one with fairley low milage, say around 150,000.
Cheers,Wayne

The trooper engine you mention is the 2.3 liter C223t engine. Its a good engine and easily got over there burt its a little underpowered. Also the trans wont bolt up and you need cross member mods to fit the diesel that comes with the engine.
If you can get one get the later 4jb1 engine and gearbox. It was used in troopers from 88 to 91 which means everything should bolt up. Its also 2.8 liters direct injection and amazingly ecconomical. With euro gallons figures of 33 mpg are common on a trip. Not sure how much less this is with US gallons

if you lived in n.z you could buy my c223+5speed. so far seems to be years ahead of my 4jb1 and 4jg2 (2.8+3.1) in reliability. It just keeps going and going and going. and trust me this thing was given hell like you wouldnt believe. I deem it unkillable. I tryed my best. It would be 1st equal in my most reliable motor with my nissan Ld28. But also gets 1st place for the most under powered..... Still enough . But i would be looking for a good 2.8 if I was you . good luck
