best way to clean block ???

best way to clean block ???

Im just about to put my new head back on the block but I want to clean it first without damaging it. Whats te best way to go about this ?? I want to have a good flat clean serface and get rid of all the surface rust, ? cheers

Hopefully someone has a better idea but I would use kero and a rag to clean it then degreaser to get rid of the kero. You cant use abrasives or anything sharp as they could damage the surface or the bores. Any pitting and its best to take the engine out for a block plane
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

80 Grit sand paper or a grinder should do it, na id use brake cleaner or kero and rag

Anything abrasive will risk leaveing an unflat surface. The head gasket is steel and with the pressures that are there in use the tolerances are almost none.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

it was a joke, on a side note what is thats stuff on top of piston 3, looks like someone likes there engine a bit too much :)

ryt....... anyway. on piston 3 it basicaly shit it self as far as i can tell . water/oil mixture. it had had enough of life and found the easiest way out . cracked a head. better not happen again after iv finished the top end rebuild or it will be the main target in the middle of a demilition derby haha.

yup well its aloud in my derby, see whats comes out better of, a 1982 toyota landcruiser hj45 or a 1992 bighorn with a cracked head ...... hmmm. im really hoping it doesnt get to that haha. I like my bighorn..

ok , getting close to re-assembly. I no what I would do but just double checking if I should put any sort of gasket glu or some sort of sealer around the head gasket . ?? cheers.

If anything should be used which would be very unusual it would be suplied with the gasket
