mine is the same as muzilas . Thanks for the help guys . the relay is fine . I checkd by putting my bighorns relay in and it still did the same thing. What hapeens is ........
..lights stay lit on dash when runng
..aircon/heater has no power at controls
..car still charges at 11v but not at 16v
it still charges and was used daily all week, but it just doesnt charge as much, Last time I had a alt die it just stopped completly but this one has seem to half stop, why would all the dash lights come on if its still charging a little bit ? thanks

hate to tell you this but 11v is not chargeing.
fully charged battery should be 12.5v
Diesel engine doesnt use a lot of power when running so will go a long time but you are damaging your battery

oh yea I agree , But my battery isnt that good, Its been driven around all week using lights and radio etc etc and volt meter hasnt moved, when the alt stops, using the lights even for a short time would put it flat right ? but it doesnt, they dont even go dim, When my old 88 bighorn alt stopped, after using the lights for a hour the battery wouldnt start it. the mu starts like normal ? Ill chuck a hand held volt meter strieght on the battery 2moro and see what it reads, mayb my isuzu volt meter is fulty ?? because its def charging, just doesnt seem to be charging so much. .....btw thanks a heap for the manuals.
cheers

You will be suprised how far they will go like that. The alternator might be putting out some charge but not enough. Check it with a proper multimeter. They are cheap to buy at dse or notsocheap

older bighorn one could be a possibitly, but not sure, would have to compare mounts and wiring. You want at least 50 amps, factory mu is 55 amps and in my opinin is only just enough when you add a couple of driving lights and stuff. If you wanna run a winch as well i'd be going at least a 70 to 80 amp model.
Oh how i miss my mu, the lux is just not the same :(

thanks for the advise, would a 3.1 4jg2 alternator fit a 2.8 4jb1 ? because I might put my alt on my oldmans ( ive got the 3.1 and he had the 2.8) and then get a bigger one for mine because he doesnt use any electrical stuff but i use alot haha. Iv got power inverter, spotties, sounds etc.. And I will get a winch in the future.
cheers

Quite possible, someone else may know, i've had very lttle to do with 3.1's.
You can make pretty much anything fit any thing if you really want to, just depends on how much you want to spend. I have a 80amp hitachi one for a bighorn on my mu, went in with a bit of effort, but well worth it. Will be looking to up size the one in my hilux soon too, just got to convince the mrs i need a new one!!!

I live on trademe. One of the best enventions haha. ill be keeping an eye out. so are they bighorn ones already about 80 amp ? or does it veary. My bighorn alt was replaced with a genuine GM one at the start of last year.
I think what i will do is not touch the bighorn and just get the mu alt re-conditioned. That seems the most obvious thing to do. The oldman doesnt need anything more then the standard mu alt. What do suggest ??
cheers.

It may just need the brushes cleaned or replaced. They can burn out the regulator or stator which means you need a new one but more often its something simple.
If you take it off an auto sparky wont charge much to test and advise
