carb vs efi

Postby slightlydodgy » Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:48 pm

Was waiting for the missus at the local garage today (got cutoff in town and my main brake line blew between the chassis and the fuel tank) and started yakking to the mechanic and the owner of a petrol 2.6? mazda proceed who had thrown away his carb and put on an efi unit. He reckoned the increase in power and economy was amazing. The mechanic said v8 :D Anyway does anyone have any idea of the power gain I could expect doing this to a isuzu or how hard it would be. The mechanic also said if I could find a original zu v6 and it dropped straight in he would look the other way as he reckons theres something dodgy about my vin set up .My ute is listed as NZ new (1990) but has service stickers from Warackshire, England in the engine bay. He also questioned the option plate that lists the engine as a RLJ when the registration vin etc lists the original as a 4ze1

Carby should be no worse then EFI in power. but EFI should be better in consumption

It did exist as a model but noone has ever seen one aparrently I have the only one 1 in NZ. An auckland wrecker I talked to a while ago (looking for a short front drive shaft -not quite as rare) seemed to think that this model was for the British market further adding to the wondering about those british service stickers in a NZ new ute
