toyota transfer case

Postby slightlydodgy » Tue Nov 24, 2009 6:01 pm

I just managed to score a w56 bare transfercase from a 92 surf. :D How hard is it to convert it from foward shift (has no selector) to top shift or am I better to try and swap it for a different type I got it to put in the shed untill the right motor comes along -253maybe?

To answer my own question I rang a wrecker here who prefers toymotas and is a member of the local 4x4 club. He told me tha t I have the wrong one and he will do a straight swap- you need one of the older type with the selector on top. one of his workers has an 88 hilux with a holden trimatic and 253 in it. one of the easyest and cheapest conversions they have done he reckons and once they changed to a carb with a manual secondary got it running cheaper than a 3litre v6 he did point out that my rear drive shaft will need lengthening as i have a slip yoke

As you can guess there isnt a lot of toyota knowledge here. Good info for the future though. I was going to suggest searching for the forum at Ihatemud which is toyotas version of this place
