Cambelt and Windows

Postby Fett8 » Sat Apr 16, 2016 10:10 pm

Hi guys, troopers been doing sterling service for me since 2011- its a mk2 3.1 tdi auto with mechanical controlled injection.

shes only covered 20k miles in that time but of course thats nearly 5 years now, I gathered the cambelt is ok up to 30k miles but what about the age? is it limited on age?

it was a gates kit I used so not cheap rubbish.

also the passenger front electric window packed up- is there a likely suspect I can use as a starting point to fix it?

Many thanks for any advice

the window 9 times out of 10 is the switch. Remember the drivers door switch as well
All the good books say anything rubber should be replaced at 6 years but we all know that never happens. Still worth inspecting the belt though. Any cracking or contamination and it should be changed. Over here we work on 100000km for that engine which is 60000 miles
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
