front wheel bearing removal

Postby laurieisuzubighorn » Sun Aug 07, 2016 2:25 pm

Read all the posts. the front wheel bearing has collapsed. I have removed the adjuster ring. ( had to drill the 3 PK screws ) removed the locking ring. Bearing in a bad way. I can't get the hub off. The bearing inner ring seems to be frozen on the shaft. The only puller I have centres on the stub axle, which of course just moves inwards when I tighten the puller. Tapping etc, it won't budge. Any suggestions?

Sharp cold chisel and hammer usually splits them to get them off.

You could try stardogs suggestion which should work but the chances are the stub axle will be damaged. There are quite a few bighorns being wrecked privately on trademe. so you should be able to get a good stub axle assembly quite easily.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
