starter motor wiring ?

Postby KIWIINGENUITY » Mon Dec 07, 2009 6:24 pm

This is not actualy for isuzu, but keep it on the down low haha shhh. anyway i have a early hj45 landcruiser with a 3b diesel in it, but it has been savataged and all the wires have been cut, so i keept it simple and wired the fuel pump to a switch and then i thought i wired the starter motor up to a switch but it didnt work, so i got it fixed, turns out the solinoid was rusted haha. so i put it back on and it still doesnt go ? i gues iv wired it wrong ? it just doesnt turn over, you can push start it easy and it goes good but i want to use the starter motor , it doesnt make a noise, i wired it up like the diagram below
cheers for your help

Have you got a good earth between engine/starter and the body/battery?
Does the starter crank with a screwdriver blade across it's terminals?

i put a earth lead on the battery that goes from the battery to a bolt on the motor which goes to a bolt on the chasse and then the starter motor is bolted on , so it should be earthed good. when i put a screw driver over the 1 terminal and lean it against the starter motor it sparks a lot but doesnt crank it

if you cross the termanils on the starter and it still doesn't crank, the starter is probley stuffed, and you did have it wired right

If you got that started the engine would take off without the rest
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
