4JG2 Broken Alternator belt

Postby dalelo » Mon Aug 21, 2017 4:40 am

Got a strange one anybody. Alternator belt broke yesterday right on the Harbour bridge, engine stopped as well? Coasted to the side and ended up getting towed home. Replaced alternator belt. Tried starting engine but will only kick into life with foot hard down on the accelerator, then just dies again (will not rev at all by moving throttle).
Any ideas anyone please??

You might not like the answer but unfortunately I think it is the direction to look. The alternator belt also drives the water pump. There is a high chance you severely overheated the engine and other things have now happened. Amoungst these is a cracked head but that is not the symptom you are describing. Your engine should be electronically controlled so there is no direct connection between the throttle and pump but the ecu takes care of this plus there are extra sensors over the early engine. If the engine stopped suddenly it may of seized and now has bad compression. What happens if you spray easy start in the intake while trying to start?
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
