Woodhill this Sunday

Postby MonstaMu » Tue May 28, 2013 5:09 pm

As above. I'm heading out with my Mu. Always keen to go in a group. Should be fun with all this rain.

Biggest problem I have is brakes. They don't work after an outing. I've got none at all today. Pedal goes to the floor. No leaks that I can see and fluid is full.

I think you missed my real point on the photos My tyres cant hold on upside down
Your brakes are most likely handbrake adjustment. A sticking h/b cable will cause bad brakes. Do a search here on rear brake adjustment

Have the pics come up upside down? Looks all good for me. I've done rear adjustments and replaced the left cable recently. Did an adjustment 2 outings ago too. Just seems strange needing to adjust before every outing.

check the cables are not sticking
check the calipers run ok on the slides
last choice is the adjuster is faulty inside one of the calipers.
Try takeing the faulty caliper off and running the adjuster 2 or 3 turns each way. It might fix it although the odds are similar to winning a trifector made up of the highest paying horses

Thanks. Will look again. Last time I adjusted I could smell the pads rubbing the disc. I put a rebuild kit in both rear callipres about a year back with new pads. About the same time I did the left cable. Every WOF they give me grief about the brakes.

my money is on a sticky cable or calliper slide.
When I freed up my cables I cleaned them internally by running kero though while running back and forwards then washed the kero out with oil till clean oil came out the bottom. Biggest trick with the cables is good boots at both ends. I got boots off Nissan Pulsar clutch cables to replace mine. Make sure the wrecker isnt looking as you have to cut 4 clutch cables to get a set of boots. If you dont have boots everything accumulates in the lowest part of the cable near the rear end
The slides on the calipers are terrible for sticking. Even with new boots on the bolts mine need to be loosened up every 12 to 18 months. I know what you mean about handbrake tests by the wof guy. Its not a good handbrake design and only works adequately if everything is perfect. Get a small pack of brake lube from your favourite parts store to lubricate these slides. Its 5 or 10 bucks for a single use pack which will do both sides and maybe the fronts as well and it is worth it.

Atvers trick for cables -clean as above, hang by one end, tape a small funnel at the top, fill with silicon spray and let it soak down overnight. When the silicon dries it leaves a nonstick coating where oil attracts dirt A bit more work but they last longer

A while ago I ran into a spray that had suspended teflon in it. That would possibly work better but it was 5 times the cost of CRC. Its 8 or 10 years since I did my cables and they only got engine oil.

Thanks guys. I know the cable trick. I was advised when I bought the cable last year. The other Mu's I ran into were not from here. I pointed them in this direction though.

Haha yes it is good to see others using their trucks and posting up photos.
Not many people seem to want to head out on trips that are offered in this club!!!
