99 Holden rodeo 2.8 turbo diesel, Tuning Help?

Postby Glenn20 » Tue Nov 04, 2014 9:32 pm

Hey Guys,

I recently got my injector pump changed and since then its running heaps better,(not stalling on me like the old one) :) but now with the new pump its only boosting to 5PSI now. Before it was 7psi, but i have been told stock is 10psi? or is that the Wastegate set to 10psi?
It's seems gutless now, with the Old pump i had heaps more responsive down low power, which helped so much in the sand dunes, now when i go to the sand dunes with the new one i'm getting bogged down, not getting that responsive down low power.

Do i need to adjust fuel control screw?? Where is it located on the pump? Picture if possible. :)
Is it something i can do myself or should i get a diesel Mechanic to do it?

This is my first Diesel, only had it for a few weeks.

Any Ideas?

Cheers

Who swapped the pump over? Is it timed right?

A local mechanic, but he and all the other mechanic's in the workshop had never done one. I did go back and get them to check it, but they said it fine and mean't to be that way.

Easy answer get vehicle dyno tuned

otherwise here's my post on pump tuning viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3242

there are plenty other tech tips on here that will help also.

Thats the write up I've been looking for. :) thanks

Dyno tune, how much does it cost?

I had my Forestor XT dyno tuned and it was about $800cash. The same with diesel?

Usually $300-500 for dyno but best way to get gains.

There is only adjustments made to pump manually. I will advance my timing at some stage and do write up.

I had same problem 5psi boost I turned up fuel delivery 1/4 of a turn at a time and go for a drive until you get some get up and go in it now I get about 12psi boost from the turbo in the end I think it took about 1 complete turn of it until I got any difference in boost and power.
You will have to back down the idle screw when done easy to do.

Thanks Guys for all the info. :)
I told my mechanic about it and he said there would be no gain in power,it would blow lots of smoke and you would never get it back the same?
He said he did it with his hilux and it didn't make a difference.

I might give it a go anyway, i cant keep driving it like this, when i know it should be better. lol

Really I'd be double checking the timing and fuel filter etc first. Make sure everything is %100 before trying to modify it.
