Hey guys just thought I would post a few pics of the new w2A intercooler I have built for my 3.1 MU. It previously ran a bar/plate top mount intercooler with a scoop cut out in the bonnet but after doing some testing I was finding I couldn't get enough airflow through the intercooler. Intake temps were getting up around 68 deg after the cooler. Have since built a new system which has more than halved the temperature. I can now run 85-90 deg pre intercooler and see as low as 21 degrees in the intake manifold. Just by dropping my intake charge temps on the same 13psi boost it was running previously its a massive difference in torque. I can now make 13psi by 1700 rpm and maintain this power doesn't drop like it use to. Going to run it up on the dyno soon and compare the old setup with the new so will have some results to post

Nice job.
What's the heat transfer to your manifold like? Mine is shocking, cool I/c (I run the bighorn air to air) but the intake manifold is always HOT to the touch from heat transfer from the head. I'm looking at getting a phenolic gasket made up to help that.
I do think a good water to air I/c would be much more consistent for off road work. It's on my one day list

Im guessing that you have ditched the AC and put the W2A radiator in its place?
Looks like a great setup.
where did you get the actuall cooler from or is it custom?

I don't seem to have problem with heat soak in the intake manifold compared to my old air to air setup the W2A setup keeps in the intake manifold nice and cold.
I am running quite big lines to the cooler -12an and the system holds 8 litres of water so its moving a fair bit of water around the system. The key is running a good size radiator up the front. The W2A is ideal for 4wding when you don't have sufficient airflow. I've ditched my aircon changed the whole air intake system has a different turbo setup on it aswell which runs a much more efficient compressor so dosen't heat the air up the same as the stock one.
The cooler came from James at Industrial radiators here in Christchurch its a core that is used in a forklift seems to work perfect for the setup.
I'm going to get it on a dyno soon so will post up the results

Excellent, I was hoping someone else was going to do this before I did. Where did you get the kit from? I'm looking at doing the same with a subaru W2A kit minus pump.

Also where did ya get the probes for temp from?

Hey Tealz I posted the dyno sheet on the other thread under 3.1 rebuild. It made 125hp 420nm at 15psi. Once the new motor is run in I'm aiming for around 140hp 450-500nm
