Getting the best performance from your Isuzu, the in's and out's

Cam Regrind

Postby Downhillnz » Mon Jul 27, 2015 9:15 pm

I'm running around getting quotes for a mild cam regrind.

Before I go ahead and throw the money down, are there any zuuzuers that have dropped in a cam. Also what gains they net'd

Auckland Cams seem to have a game plan for reasonable price. Which is where I am leaning towards.

Any advice would be appreciated.

reground cam will give you abit more torque or more top end depending on the grind, but a waste of money in my books for a diesel

lumpier cam might work but dont mess with the overlap on any turbo engine.
There are gains that can be made but theres lots of black magic involved. Only go this way if you dont mind paying witch doctors and selling your soul
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Even if its aimed at torque its still not worth doing? Are the gains not that noticable?

Hey I've just got my new motor up and running 4jG2 which has a re-ground cam which Franklin cams did for me, I'm still in the process of running the motor in only done 200km so far but on stock fuel settings its pretty dam responsive. Once I get a chance to play around with the fuelling I'll have more of an indication. Usually I would have just stuck with a stock cam as Geeves said it is bit of a black art when it comes to diesel camshafts. I made sure I did my homework before I went ahead with this and have a few mates running them in TD42's with very good results. Make sure you make it clear to them what you are trying to achieve.

Hey Powertruck31T, do you have the specs for the cam in your 4jg2? I'm interested in doing one for my 4jb1 but finding a baseline to show them is hard haha
