Which motor do you have?
Another option is fuel leak

its 3.1.. 4jx1 ? i dont see any leaking fuel anywhere.. mechanic seems to think engine is all good... tho i dont know if he checked for leaks... its had service in jan, fuel filter, air filter, fluids etc etc.. im thinking its not so bad now actually, im nearly at the end of my first tank and ive got almost 500kms of city driving from it... so i think thats reasonable. im pretty sure i can get 750kms from a tank on highway.... :) thats my expectation anyway. do you know anyone who has a fuse box translation ?? my rear wiper isnt working and i need to do some tracing...

A 3.1 is a 4JG2 and a 3.0 is a 4JX1.
Run it right down till the fuel light is on all the time and you sould get around 700km.

I get 10 litres to 100km on a decent trip....All 3 of my UBS55's would read half empty at about 200kms, but I'd get 450-500 to a tank easy in the end.

Hi guys,

I am experiencing the same problem, however the local mechanic seems to think that these 3.1 Bighorns were designed to operate optimally at sea level. As I am operating this at 792m above sea level (central plateau) this means that its sucking more fuel. Is this correct or a myth? I've also pulled out the two rear seats to reduce additional weight, but since I've had it I've only managed to get 500km to a full tank (65L)! Is there any way to tune it so its using LESS diesel?

turbo engines dont realy care about altitude. Is your auto or manual? Autos dont give good efficiency till fully warmed up which can be 20km.How long are your trips? Also you live on top of a hill so although your journey might be all downhill the way back is all uphill. Also fuel tank is 83 litres so theres at least another 100km in your tank.
As an example of what can be got on a trip I filled the wizard with same engine in Sanson drove to 45km north of Taupo and back to Levin on a tankfull. This was 68 litres for 650km so I would of got back to Wellington on what was left. Around wellington my fuel use is about the same as yours

Thanks Geeves,

Yea its an auto, I just noticed it was downing more fuel than normal, whilst towing the wee boat around on short trip (30kms) and had a few more guys in the wagon, it only got me 400kms before the fuel light came on. Good to know I've got more in the tank than I thought! Might see if i can get a lil more power by tweaking the compensator as I read in one of the earlier threads.
