timing belt question yet again

Postby surfbrett71 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 2:54 pm

Hi all

I'm attempting to replace my timing belt , I have been following the great wealth of advice provided by many on this site. yet I have hit a snag .
It may be big or small but its stopping me going any further

I have removed the Rad, belts , fan I have the motor TDC. and I have removed the four bolts holding the crankshaft pulley on , I have followed instructions and not touched the larger centre bolt. so the problem is, the pulley, its not coming off!!!!

any ideas?????

got a pic of it , cant figure how to add it either.

many thanks

Brett

daone is correct, my belt snapped last week (only bent push rods thankfully) we used a two legged gear puller, was a bit stiff but came off after a few minutes.

Gents
When replacing that belt pulley... clean the surface and add copper paste. it will make the next time easy to remove.

That was the embarrassing bit , I kept putting it off as I never had time, I had the kit for months and kept meaning to change it as it was overdue, just belt wear caused it to snap

Some later 2.8 Mus also had the same belt as the 3.1 Might have to pop the cover and either get the number off the current belt or look at the tooth profile. Square is 966 round is 844. My money is on the 966

Hey guys, do we know that the belt profile is T966 is square and T844 is round, I remember doing the belt on the 93 2.8 and was sold the wrong one (round one instead of square) don't remember which one, T844 sounds more familiar so I thought it was the square one.

Now what my problem is, is that I have a 1996 3.1 that the belt has let go on and after pulling it apart it looks like it's the square one, so what I am thinking is that all MU's have the square profile. I also have spare 2.8 parts here that I have checked (1992) and the profile is the same.

What belt has everyone else used?? Does anybody have more info/photos?

2.8s could of had either but you had to use the right one. If the teeth match the cog its correct

TB TCK Wall Chart AUS NZ August 2009.pdf

I think this clears it up a little, so I'm going to buy the T844 for the 3.1.
