There was a bighorn from chch in aprils 4x4 action with a large v8 but it was road legal but not off road no more.
Best one I know of yet is Yarnos project with a 4.5 liter lexus but this is still some way from finished.
Have a look at the usa sites on amigos. They are mus with the steering wheel on the wrong side. Quite a few with the chev 4.3 v6 There might be a v8 or 2

Was just having a look for some info and found this
http://www.carlustblog.com/2009/02/oldsmobile-350-diesel.html
I think I would stick with the petrol V8's.
You should be able to fit most of the small blocks in I would think as they would be smaller in size compared to the Lexus 4.0L, as it has 4 cams on top and the extra length in the front for the cam belt and distributors which the GM V8's don't have. Mine only just fits in and will have the radiator under the support panel, I also have to modify the headers for the width of the patrol chassis (so not sure about MU chassis as it would be lower but narrower).
You to think about what adapters you can get for the engine to gearbox or to a transfer case.

A guy around Auckland somewhere (I think) put a lexus V8 into a mu and used an auto with a hilux transfer case. He had to modify the floor a bit to suit the auto and transfer box, but i don't think he did a body lift. There was a write up about it in one of the nz 4wd mags last year or the year before(got the issue in storage in nz!!)

Thats a very interesting article on the diesel v8, well worth reading.
Oh how i miss my mu, the lux is just not the same :(

There's a blue mu driving around west auckland with a chev v8 in it looks standard apart from the sound and the chevy stickers on the back.
Also good thing about the small block 350 is cheap to buy cheap parts and they are just like the energizer bunny keep going and going and going

Sorry to hijack a thread but I just found this on trade me http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Isuzu/auction-229817026.htm and I understood that comodores wouldnt bolt straight up to a standard isuzu bell housing.

simas got a good deal
They dont bolt straight up but theres no reason a good engineer couldnt make an adapter. There not available off the shelf like comadoor/hilux

i guess this might work for the MU, only drama with this is it's for 2wd Rodeo. Dunno how it might adapt for 4x4, won't hurt to ask theses guys if you're into this sort of thing.

Marks adapters sell a conversion for the t700r to hilux transfer case which is separate Then you just swap the ends on your driveshafts and adjust the length and away you go.
This crowd might be able to supply as well

I would like some details on that swap out if you can manage it. Actually whatever info in addition to the pics would be greatly appreciated as that engine is workable here in the States as well.

After owning an Aurora and driving it the power of that 4.0 plus the ridiculous mileage I got in it, you wouldn't believe me if I told you the hwy avg., so suffice it to say well over 30MPG with a constant cruise of the speed limit or so.

30 us mpg = aprox 33 mpg in the rest of the world. How big is an aurora?
