2.5 exhaust down pipe

Postby wbski007 » Tue Jul 13, 2010 5:29 am

I want to start installing my exhaust brake and want to know if any of you are familair with the down pipe on my 2.5, can I take off the 3 nuts holding it on and replace it with something else less cumbersome? what's in the doughnut shaped bulge in the pipe between the waste gate and the band clamp, is that where the exhaust impeller is?

OK yarno I thought so, have decided to keep what's there as it makes the down turn pretty good and the heat shield for the heater hoses and firewall does a good job, I'm hoping I have enough room to fit in the exhaust brake, its going to be close tho, not much room under there, even with the oil filter gone.

Are there any rules about where in the exhaust the brake has to go? I cant see a reason for it not to go on the end of the tail pipe or anywhere inbetween but more research is needed
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

I here Alan that the closer to the exhaust manifold it is the better they work, But I can't see why this is so, blocking off the pressure anywhere should do it if all the clamps are tight and there's no leaks, if there's not enough room at the end of the down pipe I"m going to try it just before my side pipe unless I here other wise.

i guess the further back it is the more pipe it has to fill before the back pressure would aid engine braking
