Fuel Pump 4JB1

Postby muzila » Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:44 pm

I have asked this question somewhere on here but neva got a reply and I cant find where it is now.

But what is the potenioiometer (bad spelling :) ) on the fuel pump for on a manual 2.8 4JB1-T please?

I ask because my old pump has one but the replacement I got and put in don't have one. I dont know wheather to muck around with the pump and pull it apart to put the pot on the new pump. Its not going to be an easy job as they are both quite differant on the top of them.

The rest of the body and stuff are the same.

Cheers.

If yours is a manual I wouldn't worry about conecting it, your injector pump prob come of a non belt drive model, same pump which was still on my donar engine

Ok cool. I take it that the pot is for the auto gearboxs then. Wonder why mine had it in the first place then being a manual.

QUESTION, do Isuzu diesels have a in line electric fuel pump somewhere or do they use the IP pump to suck fuel from the tank??

I use an electric fuel pump on my 97 rodeo 2.8td.
It helps with the problem of running out of fuel on first start up, where as the seal in the IP is contracted during the cold weather.
Its a 7psi electric pump, none rotary type. ( repco $90 )( mini minor type )
What it does is prime the fuel system and stop that problem of running out of juice till the IP seal has expended and can suck fuel on its own. A band-aid fix for an IP that needs a new seal or overhaul.

What I just found out by using this idea is that it causes the IP to run advanced. This I was told by an IP specialist just recently who was present as the engine was being refitted.
After seeing the upper conrod bearings from my recent rebuild, one starts to wounder, and even the re-conditioner was scratching his head, what caused the upper bearings to ware and not the bottom bearings.?
Over advanced timing and the use of the electric fuel pump.
I still use it, but now have installed a switch to turn it off after OP temp is reached and let the pump suck.

Over advanced timing was caused by the harmonic balance-er spinning on the inner rubber damper, and having it timed by someone not on the ball.
My engine runs heaps better at 100klm then it did before the rebuild. ( silent )
It was timed by a dial gauge on head ( piston height ) and via the IP pump which showed the balancer being out of whack.

And I thought my motor was running quite smooth, stated first pop every time, and never missed a beat, bit noisy at 100klm but was told that was normal.

I run a electric pump all the time, 5-7 lbs, they make it easier to fill your fuel filter after changing and as a back up for the IP, it can't hurt anything adding one to your ZU.
