Try tightening them a touch then undoing and repeat until it breaks loose.

Your welcome mate. Glad it went well for you. Unfortunatly being the exhaust manifold the bolts tend to get kinda welded in there with all the heating and cooling. It is one of those jobs when you pray to the bolt gods as you swing on the breaker bar hoping like hell to NOT hear that dreaded pinging sound. :D

the weld and nut were glowing sooooo hot :P so yeah. i got a nice bond and a bit of release. on the second go.

on a side note, my fuel cut out after like 1 minute of running is completely gone, and power seems signifcantly more evident, as well as no more noise that had me convinced i had a thrown bearing....

all in all. I LOVE THIS MOD. my vac lines and EGR were cactus.... curious to see if my economy changes now...

I've just got rid of mine in my 1990 bighorn..
with a bit of trial and error I found out which solenoid to keep for my aircon fast idle.. it was the lowest one thats attached to the body.. kinda on its own.. (see pic)...
I was wondering what to do with all the left over electrics? shall I snip them off and tape them up?

CAM00036.jpg

I took butterfly out of the intake to intercooler at same time and blocked the holes with bolts.. looks a bit neater

CAM00039.jpg

another thing that might help anyone doing it is to bolt on the intake blanks I used some bolts out of the bottom of the assembly, just had to cut them down, (half roughly)

CAM00013.jpg

I've got some room now for my oil catch can.. so much better without all those lines in there..

Hey Guys,
Great forum with heaps of helpful information.
New owner of mu 4jb1t auto(great box) lol, and excited to get stuck into the mods.
I saw it discussed before and was hoping if anyone has tried this with an auto, is there any difference with the procedure with vac lines?
Also is there anyway I can leave the quick warm up system connected and how?

cheers :)

in sydney you wont need the quick warm up system. How many nights a year drop below 5C which is where it starts working

Thanks Geeves for that info, was just concerned in looking after my engine as it seems very healthy. Obviously after your comment keeping my quick warm up system would be a waste of time(other than the possible snow trips in winter) and will probably rid me of that annoying rattle that seems to come from my exhaust pipe a metre after my engine.

I am still interested in any information anyone might have concerning vac lines and auto transmission ie..... do any of the lines have any role to play in the operation of the auto? as this car is my daily driver and any mods I do would have to be carried out knowing I had a functioning car for work the next morning.

Anyone that has removed their EGR with an automatic transmission I would love to hear from you.

cheers :)

egr removal wont affect the operation of the auto, check but im sure there is 1 wiring loom and two breather hoses to the auto, none of the engine vaccum hoses control the auto

damo667 I also have a UBS55 Bighorn that I've just pulled all the EGR and vac lines out of. Can you please clarify that the air con fast idle solenoid you are referring to is the one I've circled at the bottom of this picture?

Not sure but if you look at your fuel pump youwill see a diaphramme on the front attached to the throttle linkage. The vac line from this goes to the right soliniod

Hi Geeves,

Thanks for that info. Unfortunately I'd already pulled out all the solenoids  So I don't know which one was going to the diaphragm on the pump. Anyway I've connected it all back up assuming the circled one is correct. Fingers crossed :D I'll check some of my other UBS55 bighorns in the hope that one of them still has the solenoids all plumbed up.

Those pics solved one riddle I had in my new truck. I needed a engine on only power source and couldnt find an easy one. I had used a spare lead on the old truck for the same thing. That lead would of been one of the solinoids probably. New truck still has the valves but nothing attached

My egr system is still there however a vac line has been plumbed between the 2 actuators on the intake side if egr system.

So it isn't actually working as such, why would this have been done?

I still have all the vac lines around the fuel filter, the more I dig around to make this thing go beter the more I see that its been tampered with before, also the cap over fuel screw gas been removed so that's obviously been played with, no smoke tho, only white smoke for first 5 mins of driving

If Im reading this right you have 2 egr valves on the manifold and a vac line between them that goes nowhere else?
Someone thought it a good idea to block the holes at a guess.
