yanking the gas and putting in a diesel

I have a 1998 isuzu rodeo 4x4 LS...loaded...want to yank the gas engine and stick in a diesel...any suggestions....can purchase an older 4JG2-T 2.8L diesel....will it fit or should I buy something newer....please help

I don't think that the 4JG2 was ever 2.8 litre.
4JB1-T = 2.8 litre
4JG2-T = 3.1 litre

There is a newer Isuzu diesel, the 4JX1 (3.0 litre I think) but it had some injector issues at some stage.
I'm sure, over the next few days, that you will get better info than what I have posted .

I dont know, but this guy has the engine listed as a 2.8....he may be wrong...its on ebay....where can a guy get info on those 2 motors you listed? thanks for the info...

You will also need a adapter plate or gearbox to fit to the diesel motor
This shows the 4JA1 & 4JB1T the second pix is the 4JA1T & 4JG2
All are very similar in physical size

do you think I can use the auto tranny or should I get a 5 speed tranny???thank you for the help

since your buying a motor it will make life lots easier to get a trans at the same time. The Mu did have an auto option in the the 2.8 but these would be hard to find over there the 3.1 is mostly auto except in trucks
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Just remember if you go with the 5 speed you have to get a clutch pedal setup as well, I would go for the 5 speed even tho its more work, its worth it.
I live in my own little world, but its OK they know me here.

Vehicle: 1998 Isuzu Rodeo,with a 2001,2.5 turbo diesel motor,5 speed,inter-cooler,turned up fuel,adjusted waste gate for 14 psi of boost,air bags under front end with torsion bars ,2.5 exhaust straight thru sidepipe no muffler.
1949 Dodge 2 1/2 ton pumper fire truck, 15,000 original miles, with a 1991 Cummins 5.9 diesel, turned up fuel, 5 speed trans, two speed rear, also added P/S, P/B.
