Help,..Will the 2.8L MU oil sump pan, fit a 3.1L motor?

I am in desperate need of an Oil sump pan for a 3.1L MU (4jg2 motor), a member of the forum has a 2.8 sump pan available, BUT
Can someone please advice me,....

I can't see why it wouldn't. I'd imagine that they'd be the same design, as they both went into mu's and other cars. Logic tells me that they need to clear the same crossmember and all other paraphernalia when being installed into the exact same car.

Call a few wreckers if you need to be 100% I know of one in Melbourne that do a lot of mu's. East Keilor Wreckers 03 9274 4444 ask to speak to Lou.

pan from 2.8 bighorn fit onto my 3.1 mu. sumps look awfully similar to
sodid the bell housing.sump piece was missing gasket piece so gasket poo'd it

there are 4 at wellington pick a part

I really should post a photo, I need the sump pan only that holes the Oil bung plug not the whole Sump. I'll take a photo to better explain it. I was told it would be an easy undo and refit with hassles and done in a few minutes.

Any chance that some who has both MUs (2.8 and 3.1) could do a comparism, overall shape, number of bolts etc please.?

I'll post a pic this arvo to clear it up.

I went and had a good look at the sumps on my 2.8 and 3.1
They are definately different. See attached photos.
The small pressed steel sump on the 2.8 has 18 bolts holding it on and the 3.1 has 17 (I'm pretty sure that I counted correctly).

TURNTURN,...I'm just counting the blot holes,....they don't seem to match,......bugger!!!
2.8 appears to have more holes

If it's just the steel pan just get a new bung welded in

I am pretty sure its alloy pan and has a big dint/wrap over the bung which is why re tapping it can't be done, already had a specialist tapper try twice....apparently

What are you actually trying to achieve?
Why do you want to put a 2.8 sump on a 3.1?
Are you wanting to swap the complete sump assembly (alloy and steel) or just one of the parts?

turnturn, my sump pan is badly bent and leaks from the bung, have been told to replace it as re tapping doesn't work due the dints

Can you just cut the bung and some surrounding metal out of another sump (any make), cut out your damaged one and weld in the replacement?
Are the sump pans hard to get? Would've thought there were a few dead engines around as donors.

WELL,...finally decided to have a proper look for myself, I didn't get a photo as it was raining and dark BUT I find out the following,
Its not alloy like i was told it was by the mechanic, magnet sticks and the apparent dent was not huge as told.

I think I will just have to take it another shop and get them to do it all,.....?

Dunno, it's got 17 bolt holes like my 3.1
Sump plug is in the same spot.
Just the ribs are a bit different.
Looks pretty similar otherwise.
If I get a chance tomorrow I will have a look at the part number on mine.
