Air Filter for 2.8 Mu?

Postby isumu » Mon Nov 22, 2010 11:56 am

Hi All

I am looking to replace my air filter.

I have seen on the Mu parts FAQ that the K&N E-2415 apparently fits.

Has anyone tried this and can confirm that there are no fitting issues?

And is it a "better" filter, apart from the fact that it is reuseable. I would just like to justify the price, as it would be around $100 including shipping from the US from what i've see on ebay, compared to the Ryco one which is about $50 from supercheap.

Has anyone got rid of the box all together and installed a pod filter?

Any comments are appreciated.

Regards

If you have to pay 50 for a paper filter the choice is simple One K&N lasts forever v 2 paper filters that if they get wet stop being filters.
A lot of people have fitted pods but think about where you drive. If you mount the pod externally then it is more likely to pick up water. A bit of work can see it mounted inside the current air box

i wouldnt bother with a pod, your going to spend the same money on a decent pod anyways.

I brought a uni filter (sponge filter) for mine almost 4 years ago from memory and it was the best idea i have ever had. give it a wash out every few months until its clean again chuck some filter oil over it, and chuck it back in and away you go. even when it gets wet it still keeps working. I recommend doing a reusable filter, its saved me alot of money over the years.

my 2cents worth.

What does the sponge filter look like, Slinger? does it come with its own air box or do you use your excisting one, only ever seen one on small lawn mower engines.
I live in my own little world, but its OK they know me here.

Its what I use as well. Apparently they arnt recommended in sand and they are not nice to clean after driving through gorse and stinging nettle but Ive done 50000km on mine and cleaned it 3 times

Currently running the K&N filter myself, I bought it straight from Autobarn - no shipping from the U.S. and it fit straight in without modifications to the airbox

When I weighed up the price difference, the K&N filter plus the recharger and oil kit was worth 3x as much as a regular Ryco filter and the K&N filter will outlast the MU.

The choice was simple for me :)

Well I just put the K&N filter in yesterday.

It actually doesn't fit perfectly and I'm hoping with the cover on it holds it well in place...

I don't know if it has made a difference in performance. I know even if there was though, it would probably be marginal anyway. Anyways, in my head it feels like its pulling abit harder.

I got the E-2415 that goes in the round box.

It doesn't sit flush at the bottom of the box, but i'm hoping the the downward pressure of the lid that it wont move around.

Yes, you're right. But if you have that annoying little piping that is attached to the filter box removed and you have the circular inlet that is right on the air filter housing exposed, you can stick your fingers in and feel that the filter has been squashed in place and wont move.. it has rubber rings at each end and is over-sized.
