4JB1-TC dipstick (oil)

Postby ftomas » Mon Nov 29, 2010 9:14 pm

Hi
Sorry for the strange question... but here it goes:
How many cm's or (inches) goes from the upper rubber part of the dipstick to the max mark?

Hi ask this because i have an Vauxall (opel) frontera with a 2.8 4JB1 TC, but with some things different from the other opel an simillar to the isuzu ones.
My turbo has an out angle like the isuzu (top mounted IC), the caps (oil filler) are black (on opel normally they ar)e yellow! on plenum chamber i have an overboost valve, opel doesn't have that valve, but isuzu has....
So i think the previous owners change the engine buy a 2.8 trooper one.
But the dipstick is yellow (like opel), and because i have some signs of excess oil, i you like to measure the dipstick of an trooper to compare to my opels dipstick :D

thanks

To confuse further there are two sumps on the 4jb1 which give 2 different capacities. If you remove the dipstick tube the full mark should line up with the top of the casting

2 sumps? on the trooper?

I would also like some numbers :) if possible ;)

There are 2 different sumps depending that can go on the block, ones about 5L the other about 6.5L
Have you got any pictures of the engine and sump?

Not now... I can make some tomorrow...
Engine from top? And 1 from the sump? Or other specific angle?
But i never put 6.5l on it.. So must be the other one

Take the whole dipstick tube out Fill till it overflows from the hole in the block. Refit the dipstick tube and dipstick. mark the dipstick at the oil mark as full

Drift, like always YOU help ;)
63.5 cm - 8.5 cm = 55 cm from rubber (upper dipstick tube) to max mark
I was trying to ask here, because i think (not sure) my 2.8 come out of an isuzu to my frontera....

thanks

most of the fronteras had the 2.2 diesel from opel which was not a good engine. the 4jb1 is far better

in europe...
Frontera was sold with 2.3 td from opel till 1995
then 4jb1-tc from isuzu (front ic), 1995 and 1996
next till 1998 an 2.5 from vm venturi morini
finally an 2.2 from opel, after 1998
diesel engines

Geeves, we had the 4jb1 tdi front intercooled in the Frontera in the UK and Europe from 95 to 96 it was used for approximately 18 months until EU emission regulations caused it to be non-viable for Vauxhall/Opel to fit it under licence, Ironically you can still retro fit the engine, even new to a newer car...politicians eh

The 2.2DTI has proved to be a good car over here as long as you dont run out of fuel or you will kill the fuel pump at a cost of £600+ to replace.
It has a few vacuum issues but nothing a few hoses can not sort. :D

But you are quite correct the simplicity of the 4jb1 and relative power for and pretty old engine just makes it top dog 8-)

Hey ftomas, glad I could help fella 8-)

I did have a search as I thought you just may have a 2.5 Isuzu for some reason but I cross referenced you engine with the 2.5 pictures and there are a few differences least of all the big 2.8 sticker on your air inlet

For the record here is the 2.5 from the Vauxhall Brava pick up.
