If you are taking it to a shop I think you will find they won't do it, by law they cannot send out vechiles with exhausts that exceed noise limit.
You can expect alot of nosie, kind of like an older tractor or bulldozer noise!!! Some will think it will sound cool, the people in your street will hate you!!!

Expect it to be noisier than it is now. Some turbos can get away with no muffler but the mu has a short system so can be loud. A mu I know tryed a single coby and pipe exit by the back wheel but after 6 months he had enough and fitted a second coby with an exit in the normal place.

No laws here for what they can do in the shop, its all done at the owners liability. I got a quote for muffler replacement and they want around 250 to 300 to replace it with a universal one. A bit of pipe would be so much cheaper.

Cut the pipe at the muffler and see how bad it is It will be a fraction quieter once the pipe is rejoined but not much. Dont drive too much with the cut pipe in case of carbon monoxide.

Had a chat with a friend about this exhaust with no muffer thing, as looking into it myself. My biggest problem was going to be the dB checking that was to be done at VTNZ etc. Found out that they cant test this in urban areas as the sound echos off building and gives false readings...

I am still undecided. can anyone tell me how there 2.8 when with an exhaust with NO muffler?
Cheers,
Andrew

Just try it, easy to un-bolt the muffler. When my exhaust tore off I thought that the extra noise was cool, but after a few weeks it was just annouying

I must be just plain lucky, because I only noticed a very slight difference in noise after I did away with my muffler and went to strait thru? Not unless the side pipe that I used has some sort of baffiling in it? could be??

Coby at least. 3.1 with no muffler at all sounds like a Fergie tractor! I put a muffler in!

Try a 4.1 falcon with extractors, smoothed 2 3/8 pipe and a coby. Used to set off car alarms in town and my future mother in law could hear it coming 2k away

Turbo diesels are nowhere near as loud as petrol engines when the exhaust is removed.
Petrols also like a little back pressure. Also your emmission laws might not allow the removal of the cat

disconnected my muffler on the 2.8 mu other day, not that loud suprisingly but sounded terrible, not what i would call a nice exhaust note.... what do the guys with custom exhausts run? resonators or just a high flow muffler?

haha wicked! i keep comtemplating getting twin truck style vertical exhausts made up for when i get the mini traytop conversion done on my second mu, but im hesitant due to the commonly persieve wanky factor of trying to impersonate a truck... would look unique though!
