hi everyone,
i was reading other posts and came across a refrence to qws butterfly in the exhaust and wireing it open. what is and what is the purpose of the qws butterfly,where is it located and whats the denifits of wireing it open , thanks

It's purpose is to restrict the exhaust to warm the motor up quicker. There is a short description in this thread viewtopic.php?f=27&t=15&p=17#p17

I think on most, if not all, 2.8 Mu's it is just after the turbo. That's where it is on mine anyway. Both of my 3.1's have/had this butterfly further down the exhaust, more like under your seat. I have completely removed it from one of them and the other will be removed eventually.
I have lock wired mine in the open position. The benefit that I see is that you know that it is always open and not restricting your exhaust gas flow.
I don't really see the point of the whole QWS. It can get cold where I live, but I just use the hand throttle to keep the idle speed up until it is warm.

i had one after the turbo you can take the actual flap out if you take the dump pipe off.
i also have one after the turbo on intake side of motor, i have no idea what it does.

hi guys,
thank you guys for you help :) i had no idea ill remove the butterfly next time working on her,i have removed the butterfly on the intake side when i installed the intercooler.
I think therefore I am...........confused
