It's a common modification with no ill effects. Templates for the EGR blanks can be found here viewtopic.php?f=26&t=269

A properly functioning EGR system does no harm to the engine and does remove some polutants but this is at the expence of others. It does reduce power and economy but most people will not notice. A faulty EGR makes the engine run very sick and it is expensive and difficult to fix.
Most local rules do not allow the removal of this equipment so check with the mechanic that does your roadworthy inspections before removing.
I bought my Bighorn with a 4jb1 with the egr already removed by the dealers mechanic. It had 92k on it then and has 210k now and no engine issues
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
