exhaust manifold removal

i know this seems like a stupid question but ive had a knock to the head recently and am struggling with thinking str8. ive blown an exhaust manifold gasket so in the process of removing my exhaust manifold from a 4jb1t in a 91 MU. step by step instructions pictures or anything you think could help would be awesome one of the problems ive come across is the oil return line from the turbo how the hell can you get anything in there to remove it from the turbo. so far all ive really done is remove the oil feed and coolant lines and pulled the aircon compressor off ad all te head shields and egr pipe cheers guys really need your help

Some of the things you mention can be hard to get to. Have you considered removing the front wheel and the inside guard rubber flap thingy and going in that way?

that was very helpful unbolt the exhaust from the turbo and hopefully get to that oil return line then i think its just the manifold nuts whch could be easier said than done

engine out is the easy way lol. i did it for that reason and for the clutch. the metal oil line that sits on top if you unbolt it off the oil feed on the block wer it coonects you can remove the whole line and remove the oil return line by undoing ther 2 10mm nuts under the turbo.

yup lots of extensions and lost skin got that oil line off the bottom, must remember to check to see if that is leaking actually. Oh and a racheting 12mm spanner is the bomb for getting the turbo off the manifold, just don't get it stuck in there like I did

managed to get it all apart left the turbo feed bolted to the engine and manoeuvred around it unbolted the oil drain at the block and pulled the hole lot off removing downpipe and first section of exhaust made life much easier and opened alot of space up cheers guys
