Postby Jordan63 » Sun Aug 30, 2009 12:46 pm

I like to think Im helping out other clueless people like myself by asking all the questions I can so here goes.

Does anyone know where the best place to buy isuzu mu parts is?
Im after a new (bigger) exhaust and air filter to give the performance a bit of a kick once my mu is going.

Cheers

Yarno,

Is your exhaust madrel bent or done on a pipe bender?

Jordan

I got a quote form Drift King in Geebung $1000 for a 3" mandrel bent system with a stainless 3" dump pipe. Nota bad price if you have the coin.

No advantage going above 2.5 inch on the 2.8 engine. (tiny improvement but massive cost increase) otherwise good price esspec for stainless. If you use it off road you wreck the exhaust before mild wears out anyway and also make sure they use a muffler with glass packing not stainless steel wool. This doesnt work well with a diesel

I am getting a new exhaust made up, going for the 2.5in mandrel. with no muffler, just gonna make a silencer for the end when on road, any idea how loud it might be without mufflers?
Cheers,
Andrew

It's pipe bender one.

Yarno,

I'd be keen to look at your exhaust - I am in Bris. A mate of mine is an exhaust mechanic (and a general mechanical genius) he reckons there is a header company that actually checked out mandrel bending vs pipe bending and the pipe bent version actually came up better. I'll try and get the link and post it. He also reckons that mandrel beds tend to show serious signs of wear after only a coiuple of years (holes, serious pitting) due to the thinning of the metal that occurs during the mandrel bend. Does yours have a 2.5" dump pipe too?

No dump off the turbo, it was a standard cast one, and the 2.5" starts from there.

I'm going to be in the Philippines for work until Tuesday, so if you want to have a look after that, that will be fine.

Just to add the link to the mandrel vs pipe bender link it is here at http://www.advanceheaders.com.au/html/dyno.html not very details but suggests that $$ may well be saved. I also belive that a decent gain is to made by putting a good straight through stainless dump pipe as the mu has a few restrictive curves etc in the stock dump pipe.
