3.1L Oil Filter Assembly

Postby dasnoboarder » Fri Sep 11, 2009 6:29 pm

Hey, more questions!

Been looking for a pic of the 3.1L oil filter assembly, showing the angle clearing the exhaust system. Does anyone have one they can post up?

From reading other posts in the old forum, I understand that if I want more space for a large dump pipe off turbo, the oil filter housing and oil cooler from the 3.1 engine will bolt straight onto the 2.8?

Does my 2.8 already have an oil cooler on it? Don't think I've been able to see it before if it does haha.

This is the oil cooler on the 2.8, it's the part where the filter goes on.

Ah ok cheers,

I didn't know that was an oil cooler, thought it was just the filter mount.

I'm guessing the 3.1 assembly will just be a similar looking piece, but angled down. And hopefully just bolts on :-)

The 4jb1 in the rodeo has the oil filter in the same spot as the 3.1 MU

Thanks for info and pic mate, shows the angle quite well.

I guess that proves that it'll bolt on as well... Sounds like the way to go for me I reckon.

Time to email the wreckers!

Rodeos run a smaller filter too.

If its the smaller filter it will be the same as the early 4jb1 filter which is not the same as the 4jg2 which is the same as the late 4jb1

Talked to wreckers today...

Bought filter assembly, but they said it would't come with bolts, which is pretty crap.

Image

Does my 2.8 engine have the bolts in the block already? Just unused?

When I asked to know what vehicle it came off, they said only sell one filter for the 3.1L (and have done for 10 years), same part as the 2.8, ryco Z402. Will see how it goes.

The bolts will be there but might not be the right length

Hmmm, if they can't be reused, hopefully i'll be able to get some longer ones with same thread easily.

Cheers

Sounds good geeves.

Looking at these two pics the wreckers sent me, it looks like one of the oil lines will have to be re-routed.

2.8L:

3.1L:

Could this work? 3.1L assembly, with arrow showing the re-routed oil line. Up from the oil cooler outlet, over the top to meet up with standard 2.8 oil line.

That should work. They are water lines by the way

Haha what would I do without this forum ay?

Was wondering if the rubber lines would hold up to high oil pressures...

Thanks again.
