Postby nordic » Thu Oct 08, 2009 4:14 pm

My 96 Plaisir(which i love) sometimes idles roughly and misses?
then comes right, sometimes when you stop and go thru to Park it will hunt a little(run rough then return to normal)
doesnt do it all the time but pisses me off when it happens............any ideas? Anybody?

Is this the electricaly controled 4jg2?
It might be that the idle is set a little low but it could also be a worn governor in the diesel pump which could be bad news. If its the pump then this is very similar to the early syptoms although they normal keep hunting at idle. As it gets worse it mucks up the fuel delivery and timing and eventually cooks the inside of the engine. (cracked pistons and bores)

Thanks Geeves,i know this Plaisir is electronically controlled in the accelerator dept
but not sure about the rest?as it returns to normal and is only doing it periodically,i would put my bet on it being electrical?but in my limited experience with diesels
if you have a problem with a fuel pump or similar,it is more likely to do it all the time and get worse?mmmmmm!!

Best get it checked by a diesel shop.
The Zycell pump used in your wagon is also in the intercooled version of the Mistral and some Mitsis and toyotas. They are know to suffer the same thing. The worst part is that the idle is only an annoyance but unless you have a pyrometer fitted you wont know about the other problem as it only shows in the exhaust gas temp. Another member in CHCH fitted his pump to 3 replacement engines before he found out what was happening in under 12 months. All the engines were toast.
hopefully its something else

Plaisir update, went to diesel shop and had pump inspected thoroughly all good there?however thermostat was found to be faulty, and being electronically controlled, can cause idle to alter and play up
also had tappets adjusted and all is good!!!
