2.5" exhaust for 2.8TD Rodeo Dual Cab (AUS)

Postby GreenRodeo » Thu Nov 12, 2009 7:14 am

Got a 2.5" exhaust system from this mob:

http://www.sterling4x4.com.au/

Got a major problem now, I can't change the oil filter because there is not enough room to get the new one in without damaging it.

My advice to anyone wanting to do the same thing is to get an assurance that if the vehicle becomes unservicable you can get your $$ back.

I would be getting them to rectify the problem. If it’s a standard rodeo they should fix this issue

Have u got a photo of the area where the exhaust comes past the filter? im about to get a 3" done and was wondering the other day if there is anyway that i will be able to get a filter in there too.. esp if i get thicker torsion bars down the track

I can only change my filter from the top now, which means the intercooler has to come off every time!!
I would rather do that than go back to a standard exhaust though!!

I always change my filter from the top and can leave the intercooler in place (UCS55 4jb1T with Bighorn intercooler fitted).
I do remember having to bend something out of the way to do it though and have removed the most of the "quick warm up device".
It's so tight of a fit that I have to take my watch off to get in and out with filter.
I have never been able to remove from under the car.

Here are some pics of the offending dump pipe. Sorry about the quality of the last one as I didn't crawl right underneath to get as good a pic as I could have.

I contacted the supplier yesterday and he said he would discuss the issue with their R&D department and get back to me today. Heard nothing yet so I guess I'll have to chase them up tomorrow.

Might send them an email and CC it to the Dept of Fair Trading.

What year is your rodeo?
That filter housing looks like the one on the 4jg2 not 4jb1 but as the 4jb1 was used in the rodeo right through to 97 this is possible but makes things hard for the after market suppliers

Gear drive 4jb1 has the filter like in the pic. It’s a smaller filter than the z402

will the filter not fit through the rubber cover on the inner guard. (pic 3). This is the way Ive always done the filter on my bighorn. (oil runs right down the arm but wipes off Dont wear white tee shirts for this job)

They could have made that a bit tighter, you may want to look at putting a heat shield on to protect your filter from the heat off the exhaust, there doesn't look like much of a gap there.

glad you mentioned installing a heat shield by the oil filter Mulover, my exhaust runs close to mine too, I was thinking about running an external oil cooler out in front of my radiator, I know my 2.5 already has a small cooler built in but since I will be doing alot of towing another one wouldn't hurt, what do you guys think??

If your vechile doesn't run hot when towing and you know the temp gauge is right, then i wouldn't worry about it. It is bad for a motor to run too cold.

it never runs hot, always runs at 180 degrees, but I haven't done any towing since I've turned up the fuel and boost pressure, I think I'll wait awhile before I add the oil cooler and see how it does the way it is, thanks mulover

Oil temp is always hotter than the engine. The oil cooler fitted on isuzu diesels is a water to oil type so it also heats the oil when warming up. I wouldnt bother on the engine but if you have an auto trans I would consider it a critical mod for towing

no automatic for me, got a 5 speed, so much for the oil cooler, guess I don't need one, but that doesn't mean I can't at least get a oil temp gauge, :D just what I need another gauge, I'm running out of room

Does anyone know of anywhere else that sells bolt on dump pipes for the 98 Aus Rodeo? i might email that sterling mob at the top of the apge but want some other quotes too... went in to get mine quoted up on the weekend and the guy said it would be too hard to fab up a dump for it.

You may be stuck with this mob, as there are very few places that are willing to take the time to make them.

had a thought earlier...
would it be much easier to fit a biger exhaust down past the filter and torsion bars with a body lift?
