Holden Jackaroo 97 Engine Swap - Possibilities

Postby Jack2015 » Sat Jul 04, 2015 1:23 pm

Hi Guys,

I hope you can help me!
I have a Holden Jackaroo 1997,Petrol, 3.2, Auto. I just figured out that the engine code for my isuzuz is 6VD1, hope I´m right?

Now i wanna swap a new engine to my Jackaroo. But I´m a bit confused because I´m not sure whcih engines of what typ of cars i can use. So can I just use a Engine from a Holden Jackaroo 92-97 or are there other options as well? Maybe of a Rodeo or other Cars with the same Engine code?

Oh and is it possible to use a manual engine for my automatic Jackaroo?

Hope you can give me a helpful answer :) Thaaaaanks Flo

I don't want to come across as a dick mate but maybe an engine swap isn't the best idea for you.
but if you want advice try telling us what you want to achieve with the swap, more power, better economy or a combo of both.
cheers, Josh

Two of my cylinders running with low compression...so i dont have power anymore. Running on Gas its okay, but running with petrol it's almost nothing. So I'm pretty sure to swap a new engine in it its cheaper then fix my old one.

a 6vd1 out of a 96 to about 2000 jackeroo or isuzu trooper or isuzu wizard/frontera would be the easiest answer. Some 6vd1 engines had quad cam. Get one the same as yours. That is the simple way. Any other engine will mean playing with the wiring and computer. Not impossible but a lot of work.
Changing to a manual means a new crossmember for the gearbox new driveshafts (if you get a manual version of the same car you can get these at the same time) and all the hydraulics and pedal for the clutch. Once again not impossible but a lot of work for the amount of gain
Even easier option is to buy a manual Jackeroo/trooper and dump the old wagon
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Jack2015, bit of a late reply!.I have a 92 jack with a 3.2 v6, picked it up for 200.I have a donor 91 2.8 4jbt1 that I am swapping into the 92.Im not keen on petrol power hence the swap.If you really like the truck and are financially equipped maybe a diesel swap is for you.Perhaps keep an eye out for mech good 2.8 or 3.1 diesel and trans.Dont go near the 3.0 4jx1!.Ive had one.
Cheers zacco
