MY MU WON'T GO OVER 100km/h..

Postby Frenchinoz » Sat Jul 04, 2015 6:47 pm

HELP NEEDED HERE,THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE!!
Hey guys, wanting to know if anyone has this problem before?
My MU 3.1 TD 94 automatic had full service(oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter) + automatic gearbox serviced by a specialist..
So when I'm driving on motorway, my car drives up to 100ks/hr and won't go any faster and stays just under 3000rrp!
Also changed my turbo about 6months ago..
Otherwise This mu drives like a dream and doesn't blow any smoke.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Aurevoir.

If the gear lever is in "park" can you rev the engine over 3000?

I would be checking the exhaust warm-up butterfly (if your model has one) to make sure that it's open, the other thing that springs to mind is the injection pumps age. Often the governer and other parts in the pump develop wear marks so can stick instead of sliding easily, a good dose of diesel injector cleaning additive can help here, like Nulon's product.

Check the throttle limit screw above the fuel pump. If it has a cap on it, then should not have been adjusted from factory. If it was adjusted clockwise it will restrict the throttle - I had this, it did the same to me. Mind you- I adjusted this in the first place thinking it was the fuel adjustment screw.

also check your turbo is boosting properly and that the small hose from between the turboand inlet manifold, and the top of the fuel pump hasnt split of become disconected. This hose tells the pump how much boost is there so it can match this to fuel.
