i have never seen a 4jg2 they make a 4jj1 which has different engine mounts and a pull type clutch so you have to change the gearbox aswell

Ive wondered about this as well. the clutch fork mounts to the bellhousing but the clutch plates are on the flywheel. Changing the gearbox with the engine is an easy way to go but if the clutch works backwards you might need new slave cylinder mounts or if its cable its a little more work. Chances are you will be buying the engine in a wrecked ute so you have the bits

most 4jj1 engines complete with loom, ecu, immobilizer ring and key, dash as immobilizer and speedo run through dash for the ecu also you need a low pressure fuel pump to feed the injector pump, wreakers will want over 5k for it at a guess, the radiators are big in the 4jj1 so you will have to go custom there, mounts will need to be welded on the chassis or make new ones for the block, you ahve to run the 4jj1 flywheel for the crank sensor and the bolt pattern and offset is incorrect for the 4jg2 clutch set up

Theres a bloke in victoria who has just 'created' a JMAX. Transplanted an auto 4jj1 into his jack. Great build up thread on facebook

Something that came up as an idea a few months ago from superturbocompound was getting your 4jg2 block fitting 4jg1 pistons and the 4jj1 head. I dont know where he ended up but there was from memory a piston height issue to solve
The 4jg1 engine was direct injection like the 4jb1 but as far as I know was only used in industrial applications and never turboed.
If it worked it would make a great engine

The JMAX is my beast!

The long n short of it is, that the 4jj1 will bolt up to any of the 4j-- engine mounts as they are essentially the same block with lots of mods to suit the common rail architecture.

Fitting the engine is the easy bit, gearbox selection is a little more difficult, but I ran with the dmax auto, as its the same type as the 4jx1 auto (and probably others too, yet its a little different).

The biggest part of the job is the wiring. You cannot get away with adapting it into any of the jackaroo/bighorn/trooper systems, and must replace the entire loom with one from a wreck. Also the looms are gearbox/driveline specific.

I'll put the writeup on here in another thread in the near future when I have some time. Happy to answer questions in the meantime :)
