CLAYTO™'s 4JG2 to 4JJ1 conversion/resto

Getting the best performance from your Isuzu, the in's and out's

Re: CLAYTO™'s 4JG2 to 4JJ1 conversion/resto

A local engineer can make them (his main trade is building 4wd rally trucks) but the trick is getting them past the mechanic at roadworthy time. Still not much less than the Indy ones. If I go that way we might have to stamp Isuzu and the part no on the knuckle
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Well done mate.

I will be interested if you think you will have as much ramp over with the gearbox mounting change to chassis as your original Jack.

I have not started my convert yet but have decided to re shell my UBS69 chassis rather than replace the 4JX1 motor because I like the more forward gearbox mount of the UBS69.

Yeah, im interested to see how it goes too. It was one of the downsides to the whole deal. BUT, mines 3" lifted on 33's, and clearance hasnt been much of an issue. Also, running the exhaust along the right side then across behind the transfer case rather than under the front of the gearbox, which should help a bit too. I'll be making a full set of bash plates too

Quick update

Now, this may just look like some kick panels and a knee panel, but, what it means is that the wiring is finished tidied and locked away.

A big step in CLAYTOLAND™

Oh, so seems I've skipped a few steps, well heres whats beein going on.

Over the weekend I managed to get the JMAX™ basically finished off to the point where its drivable on the road. Massive job, but its all done now.

So, next job was to take it in for its exhaust pipe. Went 2.5" from the turbo, along right side and crossover, where it gos to 3" with a straight through muffler and finishes out the back in the standard position. Quiet, but nice.

Clayton, your flares? Are they oem? How did you attach them to the body? Can you put up a closer pic of attached inside the wheel arch? Cheers

Flares are late model OEM ones. Basically, I made a template from the inside of the flare where the plasic clips are. Then, theres a series of screws/washers that screw up into inner guard (the metal bit). I'm not near the truck at the moment, but I'll try and get some pics off some spare gurads over the weekend

Since my last installment I have done a few things.

First up I had the exhaust system done. Went with a 2.5" from the turbo, along the right side, crossover just behind the transfer case but in front of tbar xmember, then into my old rear section which is 3" with a muffler. I still have the muffler delete pipe option from before too, so when we get to doing dyno runs later on, I'll test it to see which works better. I'm tipping the muffler delete pipe. That said, she's fair quiet with the muffler system on, which is kinda cool.

Next up, I had to take it in for alignment, having rebuilt the front end, the steering was all over the place, as was camber. All fixed now, and drives very well on the road.

Drove it for a few days to shake down any hidden issues. Found that the stock intercooler had a hole in it, so, rather than repair it, decided to put the big cooler i wanted on anyway.

12391822_10208371172136670_2494099604448668456_n.jpg

Also installed a pillar pod and my boost/egt and a dual volts gauges

1240579_10208377434213218_3161224830009659642_n.jpg

Along with all the goodies came some fault finding missions. Forst we gassed up the a/c only to find the condenser pipe out front had a pinhole leak, the thermostat wiring was hooked up incorrectly, and the heater flap was stuck open. All no big deal, just more time sorting issues that couldn't really be tested before use. Currently working through these, and should have it all sorted out htis afternoon.

Also have made final connections to the dual battery sytem, re done the battery terminals, and installed and re terminated the new winch.

More stuff to come soon...

Actually had a bit of a test run through our track on the farm, one with a very steep incline which previously required a front locker to climb. Gotta say, the auto has made a significant difference whereby no locker required for the same climb. Even did it twice just to make sure. It'll be a bit of a weapon me thinks
