EGT probe into dump pipe???

Postby magicdeo » Thu Jul 14, 2016 11:15 am

Gday. I am looking at fitting an egt probe into my standard dump pipe. Cast obviously cant be welded so how have people done this? I dont want to fit a steel dump pipe as this creates problems with cracking etc.
Cheers

Most people fit the EGt in the exhaust manifold where the EGR pipe used to be but some Rodeos dont have this. It will give better readings in the manifold as the gas here can be more than 200C hotter than after the turbo. At the back of the manifold there is either a pipe fitting or a flat spot that can be drilled and tapped although drilling and tapping means taking it off
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

can drill and tap without removing manifold, put lots of grease on the drill and tap and have the engine idling while doing it, so small bits will go throught the turbo without wreaking it, have seen a mate at turbo and diesel do hundreds of them like this, dont do it on ceramic wheel turbos though
