4JB1T overhaul questions!

Postby MrWho » Wed Sep 07, 2016 3:59 am

Hi all!

I have an Isuzu 4JB1T engine fitted to a Land Rover 90, it has run fairly well and I really can't complain about it.

Recently, it has shown symptoms of a worn clutch disc, so I am planning to get out the whole engine a do some refreshing (it could include a major overhaul, just for the sake of peace of mind).

So, here comes my question: the engine has a turbo fitted from factory, but I would like to improve it with an intercooler (I already got the proper intakes and piping from an intercooled version of a similar engine, to modify it), is the upgrade just a straightforward one or should I worry about getting stronger pistons, a different fuel pump or injectors, that kind of things?

Thank you very much in advance!

Cheers!

internals on the intercooled and non inter cooled are the same
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Hi Geeves!

Thank you very much! Every time I get more convinced that a full overhaul is the best option here (self indulgence, maybe? ;) ).

I'll start collecting the bits needed before removing the engine and dismantling it.

Cheers,

LB.
