4jb1t intercooler

Postby Dozzaguy » Mon Jan 09, 2017 10:38 pm

Hi guys, i am trying to fit an intercooler from the 3.1 bighorn onto my 4jb1 rodeo. Problem is i can't seem to rotate the compressor housing like people have said you can. My waste gate actuator is a bit of an issue too. Has anyone had any experience with this? Can I get some flexible piping somewhere so i don't have to mess with the turbo?
Cheers,
Tim

There are flexi pipes and a whole range of silicon bends available from boy racer shops

Excuse my ignorance, but what's a boy racer shop?

Just did a dry fit of intercooler, it looks like it is too tight to even get a hose on the turbo outlet.. does anyone have any experience with rotating these compressor housings? The waste gate looks like it wont cooperate.

depending on the series of turbo, easiest way will be to undo the two bolts on the inlet pipe of the intercooler and make a new pipe with a flange on it

On my 4jb1t turbo I just loosened the 6- 8mm bolts and rotated the front part of the turbo to fit the intercooler but you might have different turbo by the sounds of it.
You can upload a photo of the turbo you have on your engine might be able to help you out then to your problem.

most rodeos have torx bit screws into the compressor housing, they are completely different to mu, wizard, bighorn turbos

The turbo on my gear drive 4jb1t engine has the 8mm bolts at the back of the housing and was easy to rotate to fit the intercooler I bought the turbo on eBay as the 1 on the engine when I bought it was stuffed it wouldn't boost pass 5 psi.
And on the wizard I bought a turbo that is made for the jackaroo and bighorn intercooled engines so it fitted straight on to the intercooler when I installed it there is a few different turbos for the 4jb1t and 4jg2t engines.
So I think you are right Rob he has the 1 with the torx bit screws which is a problem to rotate it can be done but a pita to do you have to drill and tap new holes to do it and make up a new bracket for the waste gate to fit.

Straight bolt up if you have the turbo for the intercooler. If not you have to either modify the pipework to fit the turbo or rotate the housing to fit the existing pipework. I did the oposite on my wizard with off shelf silicone pipes. Fitted new turbo with intention to fit a intercooler later but sold it before it happened
