oil in turbo inlet ducting

Postby zacco » Tue Aug 07, 2018 9:35 am

Day chasps, pulled my ducting of the inlet to the turbo, seems to be a lot of oil in there. New seals required for turbo or do i have bigger problems? 94 rodeo 2.8 td

Usually oil in the turbo-to-air filter hose comes from the crankcase vent.

Bad seals would have lots of oil after the turbo.

Only way to know if its the turbo or breather from engine is to disconnect your breather house and clean intake of oil then run it for an hour then re-check intake. I had both these issues, heavy blow by oil vapour and a turbo on the way out for over a year. Those turbos can hold together and die slowly I think, 3.1 turbo is more noticeable when its failing.

It will be the breather and will have accumulated over the life of the vehicle. If oil use is low ignore it
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
