2.5 oil filter update

Postby wbski007 » Wed Feb 24, 2010 3:12 am

OK fellas put your thinking caps on and see if any of you can help me, I was getting my oil filters here in the states for my 2.5 from Amason. com, just tried to order more and they say their no longer available, great, now what, the part # was A/C Delco PF 1298 no one here can cross referance that # for me, my other proplem is, I don't know what year my engine is, I think its a 01 but not really sure and I can't find any engine # on the motor either, I ordered a filter for a early 2.8 but it didn't fit, no luck with 2.2 or 3.1 either, I guess Isuzu in their infinant wisdom decided to put a different oil filter on every diesel engine they made, it would have been too easy just to have one filter for all of um. I found a comline C1Z11741 for a 2001 Brava P/UP 2.5 turbo diesel on line in the UK but am not sure its the going to fit mine as I can't cross referance it to my PF 1298 #. so I'm at a impass, I hate to keep ordering filters from the UK and then find out they don't fit. The only other thing I can think of is to change my filter housing with a earlier 2.8 but don't know if their interchangable with my 2.5 either, it might just be easier if I just hang myself and let the next fellow worry about it. Anybody got some ideas, or can help me out in this predicament I'm in, will be greatly appricated. Here's some photos of my filter housing.

Yes we did but I have know way of checking if any of those filters will fit my engine, I have no way to cross referance any of them to my PF1298 filter and I can't go by year or vin # because I don't know either, thats my problem.

Its hard to believe that Isuzu made a special filter just for the 2.5, when the 2.8 is basicly the same motor,I'm going to see if I can measurements, thanks for your help on this, pig75

What about fitting a remote oil filter kit that uses a filter that you can get easily in the future?
Might also make oil changes easier/cleaner.

I use original Isuzu Japan filters. The same filter fits both my 4JB1-T (2.8) and 4JG2-T (3.1).
Its number is 8-97329911-0. It also has "GM#97329911" number on the box.

There is another filter that also fits the 4JB1 that has a smaller thread and possibly smaller sealing diameter. I can't remember if this was also a physically smaller filter. For my first ever oil change on the Mu I was supplied this filter and had to go back and change it for the filter described below.

The larger filter mentioned at top of this reply is listed with my local Holden dealer as being for an "Intercooled" 4JB1-T, this is possibly called the 4JB1-TI or 4JB1-IT. My understanding of it all is that Mu's were fitted with the intercooled spec engine, just minus the intercooler.

After proof reading my reply I realise that I have probably not particularly helped your situation, but at least it gives you some more information.

Perhaps you could take an old filter into somewhere and just match sealing diameters and thread sizes?
Just remember that they are metric (rest of planet) not imperial (US).

I can measure my type of filter if you require. I think thread sizes and sealing diameters may have been discussed before. Possibly as far back as the old forum. I think the topic was remote filters.

Ok pig75 thanks, I see now the GM# on the list now, I didn't see it when I looked before, cause I was looking under orignal isuzu not orignal parts, does that mean all the filters listed on that sheet will fit my engine? I can't tell because its in Russian, I think, and for you turnturn where could I get a remote filter that fits my 2.5, thanks for the help guys, I think we're getting somewhere now. All this for a simple oil filter, unbeleavable.
98 Rodeo, I tried one for 98 2.8 its a differant thread size, go figure.

OK Guys, I've been on this damed PC all day but thanks to Pig75 and Costericainzuu I've come up with the rite filter for my engine( I HOPE) Fleetguard PF3857 it fits 92/98 Jackaroo 3.1 or 01/03 3.1 Rodeo, why in heavens name Isuzu used so many differant oil filters for bacicaly the same motor is beyond me, I think they did it just to be pricks! My wish in life would be to sit down with these designers and ask them what in the hell they were thinking, and then stand um up against the wall and blast away. Now that I know the year and vehicle I can go back on line and order one and cross my fingers, nothing in the states tho will have to go to UK ebay, which is OK as long as I can get it, Thanks again guys for all the help, I'll let you know how I make out.

I thought all the #'s were for the same filter but wasn't sure Pig, it was a while ago when I looked at a photo a 2.8 filter the thread size looked too small, the Russian site says my thread size is 26X1.5 do you have any idea what a 98 2.8 is? I brought the whole Russian list to my parts guy and he doesn't have a listing for any of um here in the states, unbelievable, I emailed Roodogs with the fleetguard PF3857 # but haven't hurd back from them yet.

Belive it or not they aren't, I went right to fleetguards web site and they say no #LF 3857 or 3845 exists, go figure, I thought the 2.8 was a smaller thread size, mines 26 X 1.5, Roodogs got back to me and they are going to try and make sure I'm getting the rite filter, they say the fleetguard # LF 3857 only fits Isuzu enjine 4JG2 model UBS69, whatever that is, this is just keeps on getting better and better, I may end up hanging myself, I'll be sure and let you know where to send the flowers to

It's all on the fleetguard site. As far as i can tell all belt drive 4J type motors use a LF3857
and the gear drive model uses LF3528

I seen that Cummins link, Costaricanzuu sent it to me, when you go to Fleetguards site here in the US it doesn't have these listings, it looks like the LF3857 should fit, I'm waiting to here back from Roodogs to see what they come up with, plus I'm looking into a remote that takes a standard Ford filter that I can get anywhere, I'll let you know how I make out, I hope I get somewhere soon, I'm due for a oil change now.
