Turbine housing to Dump pipe gasket.

Postby BrokenMu » Sat Feb 27, 2010 2:12 pm

G'day everyone,

I've been trying to get a new exhaust system made up from dump pipe to tip.

I've recently had some flanges cut up (seen here http://www.clubisuzu.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=967) to do a "divorced wastegate" set up with the dump pipe. As I'm sure most of you are aware, the standard gasket simply follows the rim of the dump pipe, which wouldn't be practical for the way I want to go.

Is anyone in the know of a company that makes gaskets for the VI87/VI95etc. turbine housing that would suit my application?
Or is there an off-the-shelf suitable "blank" gasket sheet that I could buy and make my own out of?
I've found a blank at Burson auto parts, but it appears to be 2 sheets of cardboard with a very thin piece of metal sheet sandwiched between them. The only reason I'm weary of using this is that the standard gasket appears to be several pieces of thin sheet metal pressed together.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards
- Michael

I got my standard turbo gaskets from Repco,

I suppose gasket sheet/paper would not be suitable for exhaust because of the heat.

I would just get some high temp sealant and use it like normal gasket goo.

Cheers for the reply Andy,

However, the standard exhaust gasket would be no good in this instance, as the divorced wastegate setup requires a seal between the two exit points of the turbine housing.

The "blank" gasket sheet that i have found is made for exhausts, but it is not the same structure as the oem version.

As for the high temp gasket goo, I have only found products that can withstand up to 400deg celsius.
If you could point me in the direction of a brand that will handle more, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Holts and manseal exhaust sealant come to mind but dont know there specs
The same turbo is on some subarus so it might be possible to use a subaru gasket
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
