Postby Isuzumu4x4 » Mon Mar 01, 2010 3:12 pm

Has it been sitting?
what was it last going like?
If you turn it over with a socket does it feel right?
When my starter failed it still crash started ok.
Crash start was nearly too literal. Dont use those cheap ratchet tie downs to tow a bighorn up a mildly slopping driveway
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

You say "it turns over when pulling, but as soon as u put clutch in it dies again... ".
Are you sure that it's running when you put the clutch in? Sometimes things sound like they are going, but aren't.
Try getting pushed by another vehicle (rather than towed) or rolling it down a hill to start, that way you don't have to worry about driving into the tow car. Be aware that you may not have much in the way of brakes untill vacuum for the brake booster is built up (there is a vacuum pump on the back of the alternator).
Have you got a decent battery in it? Have you got power to the fuel cut-off solenoid? It needs at least 9 volts to open from memory.
Also try giving the manual fuel pump a bit of a prime (there is a pump as part of the fuel filter assembly).

thanks guys, btw - When i put the clutch in it Does die, it only runs whilst in gear rolling. We do prime the fuel pump until its hard to push, then once we've towed it needs primed again. Battery is a fully charged one that i use in my car, I will check that fuel filter. Cheers for the help guys.

If you plan on keeping the vehicle, you might as well get a new starter and throw it in, its alot easier than pulling or pushing it.

My money is on fuel and pretty much as turnturn says. You may of got water in the fuel while sitting in which case you have to bleed it out of the injectors which is a pain of a job

after you get the new stater in before you start cranking it over , crack the four 17mm nuts, one on the top of each injector where the line goes in and then crank it over for about ten seconds to bleed any air out, if possable have someone pump the fuel filter plunger while doing so, then tighten up on the nuts and then see if she'll fire up, it doesn' hurt to keep pumping the fuel pump plunger while your cranking either, they can be a bugger sometimes if you got some bad fuel or you ran out also make sure your getting a good supply of fuel in and out of the filter

Check the 15amp Fuse inside the truck under Engine Brake.L might help if you have not thought of it yet.

Cheers.
