something bent

Postby Powertruck999 » Wed Jul 07, 2010 11:53 am

Hey just wondering if anyone has come across this problem. I have a 93 isuzu mu. I've noticed that the steering rod that connects to the hub is rubbing on the front face of the shock absorber. Can someone tell me how much distance they have between there shock and steering arm?
I've put new Rancho shocks in the front and measured the body of the shock which is very similar to the ones that came out of it.
I cant see anything under there that looks bent. I'm just trying to figure out why its rubbing on the shock. When you turn the wheels from lock to lock it only does it in a certain position just brushes it and no more.
Any help would be appreciated

Regards

yeah i had the same problem, i think theirs only enough room for standard shocks, which a pretty skinny shocks. when i put iron man shocks in their alot fatter which made them rub. all good. just get the grinder out. :P

ok thanks guys i thought there might have been something bent but by the sounds of it they obviously get pretty close. I was looking at a bighorn they other day and you can just about get your whole fist between the shoch and steering arm.

Here are a couple of pictures on this topic.
the first is from a UCS55 (1992-2.8)

The second is from a UCS69 (1994-3.1)
UCS55-Rancho#1.JPG

The UCS55 has older style Rancho 9000's fitted (5 position adjustable, white with black knob)
The UCS69 has newer (less than a year) Rancho 9000's fitted (9 position adjustable, silver with red knob)
I think that the newer ones are slightly bigger in diameter. There would only be about three millimeteres between the tie rod locknut and the shock.
This distance could be even less dependant on what position the locknut ends up in.

If somebody has adjusted the steering stops for more lock the rod ends will hit the shocks.
