Torsion Bar -urgent help needed!

Postby Captcol » Sun Oct 03, 2010 7:55 am

At the moment my truck is undrivable as the front wheels hit the back of the guards. I haven't yet wound the torsion bars up.... I have tried but no success

I have disconnected the sway bar, and jacked the chasis on the side I am working on.

I have had a big ring spanner on the nut on the cross member at the back of the suspension arm, I have swung a dumpy hammer at that as hard as i can in the limited space and I haven't moved the damn thing (clockwise from the front of the truck). Am I doing this right? is there something else I can try?

Would it be possible to put the standard tires on the front and drive it down to the local mechanics tomorrow and put it on the host to try and get a longer lever on? or would i need to change all the tires for the 2-3km journey? I know it will look bloody stupid but oh well I need to get the front up so I can put my tires on and drive the truck

It's fine to drive as long as it is not in 4WD

Socket and 4 foot pipe on the handle You still work up a sweat.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

can't get the socket I have borrowed on there, too tall with strong bar on, and can't get pipe under there, hopefully the mechies have more luck.

@ pig, tbh mate that photo confuses me. When looking from the front of the truck I am trying to move the nuts that are at either end of the front crossmember when it enters the rearward mount for the lower suspension arm, the bars extend from there towards the rear of the vehicle ending in a socket with a many pointed star insert. On the other side of the cross member is a collar bolted onto the cross member, I will try to get a photo
