installing upper control arms

Postby wombat » Thu Nov 25, 2010 7:27 pm

hi,
i am picking up the extended shackles and upper control arms from snake racing tomorrow and wondering what tools i may need. i have some basic stuff like jacks and stands and spanners, but is there anything else i'll need. from what i hear its all pretty basic and should take about 30 mins each corner. any advice and installation tips would be appreciated

its a 94 mu with a 2'' leaf kit

cheers

crc and if you can find it a piece of metal pipe that fits over your strong bar from your sockets or double up your spanners to get leverage I would think some of those bolts will be hard to crack

120 foot pound torque. for the upper arms.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Wind your torsion bars off a bit but remember how far so you can put them back

so the extended shackles were fitted with no trouble. took a look at fitting the upper control arms and realised i'll have to take off the brake lines which means having to bleed the breaks when im done. i have an idea how to do that but im not confident, so it'll have to wait till next week when i get a mate to help me out. but the shackles were pretty straight forward

why take off the brake lines? just undo the 2 big bolts and take the caliper off the hub like changing brake pads and hang out of the way with a bit of wire

i had taken those two bolts out and the split pin from under the ball joint, but thought i wouldn't be able to remove the calliper without tinkering with the brake lines. im going to finish the job tomorrow but i'll try it your way and keep the brake lines attached, maybe just shift them without unattaching them. thanks

Once they are off the hub theres plenty of room to do cvs, ball joints etc jus mt make sure whenyou hang the out of the way that there is no pressure or kinks in the brakelines

damnit why didn't i take the brakes off when I did my cv's and ball joints, makes so much sense and I would have lost alot less skin...

Considering that its recommended practise to replace all brake fluid every 3 years removing the calliper gives an excuse to actually do the front one.
If we did this Im sure there wouldnt be so many brake issues. Im guilty on this one as well
