best suspension mods

Postby Powertruck31 » Mon Jan 17, 2011 8:45 am

Hey just wondering if you guys can help me. I'm looking at upgrading my current shocks but just want to know how far can you lift a Mu before you run into problems. I dont want to do a bodylift if i dont have to.
At the moment i have 32" Mudstars on it and have had the leaf springs re-set but im finding it rides very hard want to know if there is much i can do to improve the ride ie changing to a different brand of shock or leaf spring.
any suggestions would be appreciated

I've removed front sway bar and wound torsion bars up slightly. its more the rear that seems to ride very harsh. I'm thinking the rear leaf springs may need to be reset again.
What are the RAW shocks like?

Up to 50mm torsion bar lift no issues but do a ball joint flip and dont keep power on while turning especially with a front locker The cvs make loud noises if you do.
Dont run after market torrsion bars unless you have a heavy winch/bar on the front.
Did you get an extra leaf when the springs were reset. This makes them too hard.
Ive had great results with Lovels rear springs but others have done well with EFS

Thanks for the info i dont have a front locker its just standard at this stage. With the ball joint flip this dosent weaken anything? i take it just allows for better articulation through the travel?
Ive had a extra leaf added to the springs as the old ones had sagged quite bad im thinking of replacing them with some new ones. Do you happen to have the p/n for the lovels springs.
thanks

HR-15 H/D
For the Mu get them without the H/D on the end
You also need new U bolts a little longer than standard.
They are a strange spring with 5 thin springs instead of the factory 3

The ride is much better and with the sway bar on still no body roll even when pushing it a little hard. Without the swaybar it rolls a little but only enough to keep you honest in the corners. Still overtake cars on the Rimitukas.
This is the Bighorn though with a slightly higher center of gravity

ok cool thanks for your help ill price some new springs up for it tomorrow. the guy who re-set my original springs said they can re temper the factory ones back to how they use to be but im under the impression that if they have been in the truck since 93 then there is only so much you can do to steel before it looses its properties. think new leafs is the way to go
