Sway Bars

For all suspension modifications

Re: Sway Bars

Postby geeves » Thu Sep 24, 2009 3:17 pm

Huge difference off road and only a little bit more body roll on tight corners. I used disconnects for a short time but got lazy so now just leave it off except at WOF time.
Do remember that legally removing the sway-bar or fitting disconnects does require certification. If I had of tryed this mod when my certification was done I would never of had to reconnect my bar but Im not paying another 400 just for this mod

89 bighorn only has front. I dont believe any mu has a rear sway bar. The ubs 69 bighorn does but if you have a lotus model it had a rear disconnect from factory

I remember a project and photos for some disconnects on the old forum or the old web site.

I bet geeves has the file somewhere in his hoard of files!!!

Would be good to put it in the FAQ list.

I used JW's setup and it works great. I had the clips in to start with but was lazy and never reconnected them, I can still hit a 75 corner at 100 with out swaying around.

I don't know how I did it, but I managed to snap one of the link arms on my rear sway bar. I'll put it down to tackling the Whitcoomb at Easter. The truck travelling behind could see the difference in articulation straight away. I ran with it broken for about a month afterwards. Definately rolled more, but not unlivable with ...and that's with my lift. I'll be removing a link arm before I set off up that way again this Labour Weekend. I have no experience regarding the front, may as well disconnect that at the same time.
The disconnects above don't suit the bighorn, but something can be done. I've got a idea based using on my broken link.

you can still mount the snorkel the same, you just have to bend the bracket a few more times to fit in behind the door!!!

if you want to be really budget you can use PVC down pipe for a snorkel too :)

With pvc you can hit it against a tree and cause it to crack in a not visible place. Next time your in water your motor might stop. Better to use metal or a flexible plastic
